Can documents signed with e-Sign Desktop be exchanged with users who do not have e-Sign Desktop installed?

Yes. Users can open and view documents signed with e-Sign Desktop, even if they don’t have e-Sign Desktop installed. The e-Sign Desktop signature block will be visible, indicating that someone has signed the document electronically; however, e-Sign Desktop is necessary to verify the authenticity of the signature or document. Without it, the document will simply be the electronic equivalent of a fax or photocopied paper record.

I faxed in my signature form but haven't received my ePersona Signature file. When will I be receiving it?

Since the process is automated, you should receive your ePersona Signature file very shortly (usually within the hour). If you haven't, please verify the following:

  • The name and email on the address are typed correctly on the form.
  • A cover sheet was not including when faxing.
  • Your spam filter did not block the email containing your ePersona file.

If you have verified the above and still have not received your ePersona Signature file, please inform support at 1-888-SILANIS, option 4, or customeradvocates@silanis.com.

I received my ePersona Signature file, but when I try to open it I receive the following message:

Error: Fail to open the signature file.

An error occurred while parsing the command line arguments.
Use the switch -h to get the command line options.

The ePersona Signature file is not properly associated with e-Sign Desktop. The following steps should associate the file with the application:

  1. Make sure a production release of e-Sign Desktop is installed on your system.
  2. Copy or Save the CPSI file to your local machine (example: Desktop).
  3. Launch Windows Explorer and select Tools - Folder Options.
  4. Click on the File Types tab.
  5. Select the CPSI file type and click on the Advanced Button.
  6. Click on the Edit button.
  7. Remove the command line that displays the path to the ePersona Wizard.
  8. Click the Browse button and select ePersona.exe from the e-Sign Desktop Directory (usually C:\Program Files\ApproveIt).
  9. Click OK twice to accept the changes.
  10. Click close to shut down the Folder Options dialog box.

In Word or Excel, why are some of the items in the e-Sign Desktop toolbar/menu missing or inaccessible?

The issue may be related to the files ApproveItEx.dot and ApproveItEx.xla. The following steps should restore the toolbar and menu to their default state:

  1. Make sure Word, Excel, Outlook and any other Office applications are closed.
  2. In Windows Explorer, browse to: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OfficeStartup
  3. Delete the file ApproveItEx.dot
  4. Browse to: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\XLStart
  5. Delete the file ApproveItEx.xla
  6. Browse to: C:\Program Files\ApproveIt\Support
  7. Copy the file ApproveItEx.dot
  8. Browse to: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Startup and paste the file here
  9. Browse to: C:\Program Files\ApproveIt\Support
  10. Copy the file ApproveItEx.xla
  11. Browse to: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\XLStart and paste the file here.

I have lost my signature password what can I do?

For security reasons, e-Sign Desktop does not offer the option of password retrieval; a new signature must be created.

How does e-Sign Desktop handle Daylight Savings Time (DST)?

Silanis products do not generate or manipulate date and time information. Silanis products use the date and time information provided by the underlying software infrastructure (e.g. operating system, application server, etc…). Therefore, it is the responsibility of the infrastructure software provider to comply with the DST requirements and keep it up to date.

My signature is too big, how can I resize it?

You can use the following trick to reduce the size of your signature if it is taking too much space in your Word document.

  1. Place your cursor at the location where you would like to position your signature.
  2. From the menu choose Table > Insert > Table.
  3. In the popup window set 1 for Number of columns: and 1 for Number of rows: then click OK to accept changes.
  4. Resize your table by dragging table edges.
  5. Last, place your cursor inside the newly created table and sign.

Please note that instructions above are related to Microsoft Word 2003 or less. For Word 2007, simply Click Insert > Table and click the first square to the left. This will create a table with one cell.
